San Carlo Restaurant
This historic restaurant, the sign reads “year 1843”, is located on the main road in Chiuro. For locals and loyal tourists it has always been a fixed stop for typical cuisine with a wink to new demands.
For generations, in fact, the same attention to the choice of raw materials and preparation of the dishes has been handed down. Now at the helm of the restaurant there are Carlo and Giovanna, two talented and very young siblings.
Every day, using fresh and seasonal ingredients, they prepare pizzoccheri, homemade pasta, game ragout, main courses of meat (don't miss the grilled coppa), taroz and the ever-present polenta cropa: an ancient recipe that calls for, in addition to buckwheat flour and water, the addition of potatoes and cream during cooking.
Sommelier Paco is very careful in updating the wine list and will tell you the story behind each label of the Nebbiolo producers of the Valtellina Alps. It is possible to visit the historic cellars downstairs, with over 200 local labels, to personally choose which bottle of wine to take to the table.
On summer evenings you can dine in the flowery garden dehor.
A treat for those with a sweet tooth: Giovanna prepares some excellent desserts and if you are undecided, enjoy the mixage.
