La Spia

La Spia is a young and innovative winery in the heart of Sassella, at the entrance of Sondrio. The name La Spia has ancient origins, meaning lookout post: during the Grigioni domination it was a strategic control point over the valley and the Adda river. Michele Rigamonti's family came into possession of this “rocky hillock” in the 1960s and carried out the deforestation work to bring Nebbiolo cultivation back to the terraces. Between 2020 and 2021, a large part of the old planting was replaced with new rootstocks, ready to produce high-quality grapes. The first harvest of this winery took place in 2006!

The labels of the Riserve and Valtellina Superiore DOCG wines were designed by Luca Pignatelli, a well-known Italian figurative artist, who wanted to express the essence of our mountain land through mythological images related to the forest. During spring and autumn, the area outside the farmhouse, now temporarily closed, is transformed into a perfect outdoor tasting room. An evocative location surrounded by vineyards, especially at sunset.
